Weekend Update

What a fun weekend. At least for me it was. Maybe it wouldn’t have been your cup of tea but I had a blast. It really started on Friday for me.. I am doing the flowers for Ashleys wedding on October 21st so on Friday Ashley, Elicia and Verlee went down to Cummings to Howell tree farm to pick out the dried flowers that she wanted to purchase from them for her wedding. She is going to carry an arm bouguet of all dried flowers. All of the flowers will be dried. The bridsmaids will be carrying dried wheat and some other dried materials. It will be cool. In fact all of the flowers will be dried, even the corsages. It will be a challenge for me because I haven’t worked with drieds for probably 20 years. But I am excited about the adventure and the chance to learn some more.

Saterday we worked some more at Layne and Sara’s remodeling project at their house. I was able to finish up Kinzie’s room. Well almost. I need to put the last coat of paint on the closet doors and then it will be finished. I am going to ask karen to come and help me paint an easel on the wall and chalkboard paint it so she can use her chalk down there. She will have fun. After I painted the daisies on the wall she walked in and said, “ I love this.” I was thrilled. Now on to the baby’s rooms. That will be fun too.

And now the grand finale. Sunday after church there was an auction not to far from our house. Not just any auction. A local landscaping company was having an auction to reduce their inventory so that they didn’t have to store any of it over the winter.
I was in heaven. Lots of shrubs, flowering perennials and GRASSES. I love grasses.
So after church, which I got out of later than I thought I would Brendon and I stopped by the auction to see where, they were at. There were some household items, antiques and some equipment too. I saw we had time until they got to the plants so we ran home and changed clothes, grabbed a sandwich and went back to the auction.
I brought home 25 plants. It was great. During the auction I was looking for a shrub to put in a particular spot at the house and came across one that I was not familiar with. I asked a man who was looking at some of the shrubs like he knew something about them if he knew anything about the one that I was looking at.
He answered my questions and asked if I lived in the area and did I know why the landscaper was having the auction. I answered his questions and kept thinking that he looked familiar. You know how you just know you have seen someone before but just can’t place where. He mentioned that he was from Bondurant. That is where Larry grew up. After Larry came back from taking the boys home (they were bored) I asked him if he looked familiar to him and told him that he was from Bondurant. Larry recoginized him and told me his last name. He went to highschool with Larry. He was a couple of years older than us and I knew him from 4-H club. His family showed steers there also.
So did I. Don’t laugh. It was the thing to do then. Anyway back to the story. We had probably not seen this man, Loren for 32 years. Wow what an amazing thing our memory is.
I had a great time talking to him and picking his brain. We all helped each other as the auction had to be split between two auctioners after the auction ran 6 hours long and still ran another 2 after the other auctioneers got there. We were there a total of 8 hours. No, I am not complaining, I had a blast. I enjoy auctions and love plants so it was great.
